Day 9 - May 25th

Coober Pedy.Today was a very big day. In the morning we went for a swim (very cold) and we played on the playground a lot. In the afternoon we went on a Stuart range park tour which took us on a 4 1/2 hour excursion to a opal mine where we saw how they dug the holes and how they used the dynamite. We also saw a movie about the first people who discovered opals. Also on the tour we went out in the desert and saw some interesting things, like the dog fence which goes from South Australia through the Northern Territory and up to Queensland (over 5000km longest fence in the world).Later on we went even further into the desert and then the tour guide man announced that we were in the middle of what used to be the deepest part of the inland Australian ocean called the Artesian Basin.Just before the sun was setting we went to the area where the movies Escape from the Red Planet, and Mad Max 3 Beyond Thunderdome was filmed. I thought that today was great.
