Day 8 - May 24

On day 8 we decided to stay at Coober Pedy which is the Opal capital of the World. Today we visited the Old Timers Mine and while we were there we got search for opals ourselves in a little rock "noodling" pit. I filled a small bag with opals and at the Old Timers Mine we got to go under the ground and see how the old timers found opals and how they mined for opals. At the Old Timers Mine they also showed us what underground houses look like (60% of people in Coober Pedy live underground). People live underground because in summer it is VERY VERY HOT and if they live underground it is much more cooler. For example 50 degrees above and 25 degrees below ground.
